It can be a nuisance to maintain those sparkling white teeth of yours. Even though it’s just something taken care of in the morning and night, it needs to be properly maintained. Holding the brush.
According to Care2, you should hold your toothbrush like if you’re using a pencil, between your fingers. Don’t make it a habit holding it another way as not only you won’t remove plaque completely, it can take extra effort. Therefore, spending more time and pressure in one area would lead to gum bleeding and bruising.
Brushing in a circular motion
Place your toothbrush in the middle of your tooth, at a 45-degree angle, and start brushing in a circular motion. Make sure to cover the whole area including the edge of the gum line. Do this with every tooth two times in a single session. Also, this is for the outer and inner areas of your teeth. Do not continue this processes on the chewing surfaces. Once you get to the back surfaces of the front teeth, the brushing motion will change. As you can see from the infographic above, tilt the toothbrush vertically and brush in an up-and-down direction. Moreover, this alleviates pressure and allows the bristles to have a better reach inside. Continue this process with the bottom of the teeth as well.
Brushing the biting surfaces.
Usually, this one everyone gets right since it’s the side-to-side motion technique. Directly face the bristles of the toothbrush on the eating surfaces of your teeth and brush them in a sawing motion. Furthermore, you can add pressure to this brushing technique, just make sure you’re not overbrushing. If you’re adding too much pressure through this process, you could wear down the enamel surface over time. If you don’t know what “enamel” is, it’s the outer layer of your teeth. This is a protection layer to prevent tooth decay or erosion. This is the most important teeth substance from your overall oral health. Keep this in mind the next time you decide to brush vigorously.
